"Exploring Circles #6: Indigo" is a much bigger piece than the others in this series. All of the fabrics were hand-dyed, most of which I did in an indigo bath at Ginny Lee's home last summer. They are supplemented by some pieces done with Procion MX navy blue, which is similar in hue. I made shibori pole wraps, tied pieces, scrunched, etc. to create a lot of different patterns. The red sateen inserts and threads accent the work.
There is extensive hand stitching with variegated sashiko thread on the circles. The piece was constructed in five separate panels with the big circle appliqued on last. After backing and facing each panel, they were overlapped and stitched together at the top. I love this piece and hope to enter it in several shows.
